I've told my story before and I will tell it again. The tale of my entrance into CrossFit (from here on out known as Crossfit or just CF).
It all began in Washington DC in the Autumn of 2011. I was there for a running event and while getting ready for Friday's run I ran into a guy I had known for a few years. Not having seen him for awhile I barely recognized him.
He was ripped and when I asked what the cause of his new physique was he immediately launched into a speech about Crossfit. I didnt really know what Crossfit was but I knew at that moment that I was about to start it.
One of the people in our group was an avid runner and I knew that she too was instantly hooked.
My friend, known here as PB, almost immediately found a 'box' (CF terminology for a CF gym) and started training. She did well from the get go.
One day we were out and she went to her box and she went in to workout. Because the movements and techniques in CF are often not ones that are used in most peoples' workouts a basic training course is often required. I sat in the car and listened to people throwing down inside.
As I sat there, under a brilliant blue sky and a gentle breeze, an old lady 'power walked' by. At that moment I was overcome with emotion. I realized that while I wasnt utterly out of shape I had put on some pounds and was no longer in the leaner shape I had been in my younger years.
About a month or so after that day I started a regular WOD at a box about 10 minutes from my home. While things were scaled for me I was pretty much thrown right into the mix. The warmup (on a warm November day) involved so much quad frying activity that I actually crashed to the macadam. And I still had the WOD to do. After the hour was up I ended puking my guts up behind a salt shed at the strip mall.
After only a few WODs I knew I needed some instruction in the Crossfit Foundational Movements. I headed to CF Lancaster where I did the one month long 'Onramp' class. This prepared me pretty well for being released to the "Big Kids' Class".
I fit in fairly well at CFL and learned a lot. When one of the trainers left to open her own box I migrated to the much closer facility. Ive been at CF Uncompromised ever since.
Everything from this point on will be told in other posts. Now its time for Molly to tell her story. I am quite interested to see what color text she picks and to see what she has to say. :p
